Kanazawa and the Japanese Alps
Kanazawa and the Japanese Alps April 11-13
Kanazawa is one of the best preserved Edo-period cities in Japan, the 260 years period of the Tokugawa shogunate that united the country in 1603 and brought peace and prosperity. The town is famous forKenroku-en Garden – one of Japan’s top three gardens, the Nagamachi Samurai district and the geisha districts Higashi and Nishi. We spent one night in town, then took a bus to the Japanese Alps for a night in Takayama and returned for one more night to Kanazawa. Which gave us plenty of time to visit the sights on foot and enjoy the cherry blossom season that was now in full bloom in Kanazawa. Entrance to Kenroku-en was free for the main cherry blossom week, with illumination after sunset.
