Skaftafell to Seydisfjördur – part 2

Skaftafell to Seydisfjördur – part 2

To avoid the rain in Skaftafell we drive another 8km and pitch our tent in Svinafell, another nice campsite and without rain. The weather is very local here, especially close to the glaciers.
Luckily it stopped raining in Skaftafell overnight and we get back there in the morning for the walk to the Skaftafellsjökull glacier (cold, so very cold close by) and the beautiful Svartifoss, framed by dark lava columns. Next we stop at Jökulsarlon, a glacial lagoon where icebergs slowly drift out to the sea. Not that many icebergs around right now but lots of tourists, so we skip the boat ride not wanting to wait four hours for the first available seats. We drive along the Eastfjords, on a windy road in and out of the fjords, so pretty and green with blue water and almost none seems to live here. The night we spend in picturesque Seydisfjördur, a tiny village with colorful wooden houses and nothing much else.
